This will act as a guide for new translators joining us.

## Roles

We have four types of work that needs to be done:

- Translation - Chinese to English translation of wuxia novels
- Content writing - Content creation for our encyclopaedic section with detailed information of each wuxia world
- Editing - Checking, correcting and improving the work submitted by our translators and writers
- Proofreading - Checking edited work for errors missed out by the editors

## Translator

Requirements and expectations:

- Able to read and write both Chinese and English well. It is a little vague but we do expect a certain level of penmanship.
- Help to build up our glossary of common terms and use them religiously in the translations.
- Maintain a consistent tone throughout the story.
- Ensure that the essence of the original author’s writing is conveyed, not just a simple translation.
- Keep translations and explanations separate. Use footnotes to explain the background information to help users understand the origins of the cultural term or tradition.

## Writer

Requirements and expectations:

- Able to do independent research on the characters, places and factions in the novels.
- Able to read Chinese is a plus since that would help with research.

## Editor

- Good command of English, both in reading and writing. Knowledge of Chinese is a plus but not necessary.
