Getting started

This will act as a guide for new translators joining us.

Roles

We have four types of work that needs to be done:

  • Translation - Chinese to English translation of wuxia novels
  • Content writing - Content creation for our encyclopaedic section with detailed information of each wuxia world
  • Editing - Checking, correcting and improving the work submitted by our translators and writers
  • Proofreading - Checking edited work for errors missed out by the editors

Requirements and expectations:

  • Able to read and write both Chinese and English well. It is a little vague but we do expect a certain level of penmanship.
  • Help to build up our glossary of common terms and use them religiously in the translations.
  • Maintain a consistent tone throughout the story.
  • Ensure that the essence of the original author’s writing is conveyed, not just a simple translation.
  • Keep translations and explanations separate. Use footnotes to explain the background information to help users understand the origins of the cultural term or tradition.

  • Able to do independent research on the characters, places and factions in the novels.
  • Able to read Chinese is a plus since that would help with research.
